What is Sculptra?

Collagen in slow motion, for 2+ years.

Sculptra is Galderma's original PLLA (poly-L-lactic acid) collagen stimulator — first FDA-approved in 2004 and now used in over 30 countries for both cosmetic rejuvenation and HIV-related facial wasting. It contains microparticles of the same absorbable material used in surgical sutures for decades. Once injected into deep tissue, PLLA stimulates a gradual fibroblast response that builds structural collagen over 3–6 months. Results emerge slowly but last 24+ months — significantly longer than hyaluronic acid filler.

How it works

The science ,
simplified.

Understanding the mechanism helps you set realistic expectations and choose the right brand for your goals.

01

Volume loss mapping

the treating physician evaluates global facial volume loss — temples, cheeks, jawline. Sculptra is ideal for diffuse volume restoration, not localized contouring (use HA filler for that).

02

Topical numbing

Numbing cream is applied for 15 minutes before treatment. Numbing and comfort measures are selected according to the treatment plan and medical assessment.

03

Strategic placement

Sculptra is placed at an appropriate tissue depth according to facial anatomy and the treatment plan. The treating physician determines technique, amount, and post-treatment massage instructions.

04

Instant result, 2-week settling

Early swelling can temporarily change appearance after treatment; Sculptra's intended collagen-building effect develops gradually over time.

Treatment areas

Where we inject ,
and why.

Each area has its own anatomical target, typical volume, and result timeline. The treating physician determines whether Sculptra is appropriate and plans the amount for your anatomy and goals.

General Sculptra treatment areas and planning considerations
Treatment Area Ideal Indication Typical Dose Visible In
Temples Temple hollowing from aging 1 vial per side 6–8 weeks
Mid-face / cheeks Malar volume loss, descent 1 vial per side 8–12 weeks
Jawline Jowls, lower face deflation 1–2 vials 8–12 weeks
Full face Global aging, structural loss 2 vials 12 weeks
Décolletage Chest wrinkles, crepey skin 2 vials 12–16 weeks

Frequently asked

Sculptra
questions.

How much does Sculptra cost in Busan?
Newline's currently supplied public price guide does not list a confirmed Sculptra price. Availability, vial count, session plan and final price are confirmed during consultation.
How is Sculptra different from PDLLA boosters such as Juvelook?
Sculptra uses PLLA and has a long clinical history as a collagen stimulator. Juvelook is a Korean PDLLA-based collagen booster with a different formulation and treatment approach. The treating physician should recommend an option based on anatomy, skin quality and the desired type of correction.
When will I see results?
Initial "swelling result" at day 1 (water in product) — this dissipates. Real collagen begins forming at 4 weeks. Visible improvement at 3 months. Final result at 6 months. Lasts 2+ years.
How many sessions do I need?
2–3 sessions spaced 6 weeks apart. Severe volume loss may need 4 sessions. Maintenance every 1–2 years. Sculptra is a long-term investment, not a one-time fix.
Is Sculptra safe?
Sculptra has a long history of clinical use, but it is an injectable medical treatment with potential side effects and complications. Suitability, technique, aftercare and individual risk should be reviewed with the treating physician before treatment.
Can Sculptra replace fillers?
For diffuse volume loss and aging: yes. For specific contouring (lips, chin tip, nose): no — HA filler still needed. Sculptra + HA filler is a comprehensive combination.
What is the "5/5/5 massage protocol"?
The commonly referenced 5/5/5 instruction means massaging for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days. Follow the exact aftercare instructions given by your treating physician, because protocols can vary.
Will I get nodules with Sculptra?
Small papules or nodules are a recognized potential complication of PLLA treatment. Risk depends on product preparation, placement, amount and aftercare. Contact the clinic promptly if persistent lumps, pain, color change or other concerning symptoms occur.
How long do results really last?
PLLA particles dissolve over 24 months — but the collagen they've built remains. Most patients see meaningful results for 2–3 years. Maintenance refreshes the collagen-building cycle.
Do you offer English-speaking consultations for Sculptra?
Yes. Newline Clinic supports international patients in Korean, English, Japanese and Chinese. Contact the clinic through WhatsApp to confirm Sculptra availability and arrange consultation or interpretation.
